[Written for the Sentinel]

"He that keepeth Israel"

I asked God just to let me watch one night
With love o'er all the world in peaceful prayer.
I saw earth's nations walking in the light
Of liberty and fellowship; and there
Was "no more sea." The night became as day.
I asked God just to let me watch and pray.

I asked God just to let me watch one night
With love o'er all earth's churches everywhere.
I saw Truth's seven candlesticks all bright
With promise; yea, I beheld the care
Of human ownership had passed away.
I asked God just to let me watch and pray.

I asked God just to let me watch one night
With love o'er all earth's children as they slept.
I saw the dawn of morning, pure and white;
And knew that Israel's Father, God, had kept
A faithful vigil. Always let my way
Of service be to waken, watch, and pray.
