The Huntington (Ind.) Herald

It would be necessary for one to read dispassionately but a small portion of Mrs. Eddy's writings or the Christian Science periodicals to know that it is stated and restated on practically every page that the mission of Christian Science is to destroy sin. Therefore when a public speaker implies that Christian Science tries to argue against the necessity for the destruction of sin, as did a local evangelist, he shows that he is either guessing at what Christian Science teaches, or that he is accepting and repeating misinformation from others.

The Bible tells us that sin brought sickness and misery to mankind, and shows clearly that sin is not a part of God's creation; hence sin is unreal, untrue as a spiritual fact—a false belief of mortal mind, called the "carnal mind" by St. Paul. The Christian Science teaching of the unreality of sin has been construed by some to mean that sin should be ignored, while, as stated, the belief in sin must be destroyed. The writings of Mrs. Eddy bring to mankind an understanding of spiritual law that lifts human consciousness—possibly gradually, but surely—above the belief in and love of sin; and it is thus that the destruction of sin is accomplished.

Those who have not tested Christian Science for themselves may ask if this teaching is practical and if it is demonstrable, and the answer is that it is not only intensely practical but Christianly scientific, and hence provable. Multitudes have testified to its efficacy in the destruction of false appetite, dishonesty, and sin of every name and nature, and as a natural consequence there have been a like number of testimonies of the healing of every kind of physical disorder. Since sin causes sickness and disease, their destruction naturally follows the destruction of the cause.
