It is with a heart full of gratitude for the benefits received...

It is with a heart full of gratitude for the benefits received through Christian Science that I submit this testimony. On Sept. 9, 1911, one of my ankles was injured. As it was thought to be only an ordinary sprain, the usual material remedies were applied, and after two days of rest I began to teach, though walking on crutches. I continued my work four weeks, then was given three weeks' vacation; but being unable to walk without crutches at the end of that time, I taught until a teacher could be found to take my place.

Upon the advice of two doctors I was then removed to a hospital for an X-ray examination. The case was pronounced tuberculosis of the ankle and toe joints. I was very much discouraged, and the fear of losing the foot was constantly before me. After the foot was placed in a plaster cast, I was sent home. A serum was used hypodermically by the home physician to heal the bone, but it had exactly the opposite effect, for in a few weeks the ankle became much worse. I was accordingly removed to the hospital for another X-ray photograph, which disclosed a worse condition than had existed before.

The treatment was continued two months longer, when the other ankle became so badly affected that I was again taken to the hospital and the X-ray used on both ankles. Before I reached there, however, the pain had spread over my entire body. This was followed by hemorrhages, numbness, and other alarming symptoms, so the doctors decided they could do no more for me. After five weeks I returned home worse than before, and none can picture my despair and discouragement, for I soon lost the power of speech and suffered intensely night and day.
