The Lectures

Chicago, Ill. (Ninth Church). — Charles I. Ohrenstein, lecturer; introduced by George E. Simmons, who said in part: —

The apostle Paul, in his epistle to the Philippians, said to them: "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." Clearly this means that the working out of salvation is an individual problem. The responsibility may not be shifted to another. The creating and governing Principle, God, must be understood and wrought out in the experience of each one. The Bible contains full and complete instructions regarding salvation. Christ Jesus has shown us the way by demonstration. He worked out his own salvation, not from sin only but from every troublesome and inharmonious condition, sickness and death included.

The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," is exactly what the title says, — a "Key to the Scriptures." It corroborates and explains the Bible in its "spiritual import and application to all ages, past, present, and future" (The Christian Science Quarterly, Explanatory Note). The Christian Science. The facts the teachings and practice of Christian Science. The facts of Christian Science are set forth in words that are readily understood, for the effort is to make plain to each individual the way of salvation. The effect is always a blessing, never an injury.
