[Written for the Sentinel]

"No more sea"

Among the mighty sayings of the Book,
It seems to me
Than this none gives more comfort: "And there
Was no more sea."

No dread of shipwreck on a stormy shore,
In dire distress;
No more misunderstanding those we love
And fain would bless.

No more upheaval and unquietness,
Nor wild unrest;
No longer troubled questionings and stress,
Upon Life's quest.

No sense of separation wide and sad,
In void without;
Nor wandering in lonely wilderness
Of fear and doubt.

O gentle Saviour, who in olden time
Didst walk the sea,—
Come thou to me and help me comprehend
Truth's power in thee!

Cause me the revelation clear to grasp,—
Eternal peace,
Where human storms are calmed by Love supreme,
And conflicts cease.

Then fear of wind and wave will swift depart,
And I shall know
That thou in surest safety bearest me,
Where'er I go.

Thus shall the vision pure of Patmos Isle,
Dawn upon me,—
And prove in consciousness the truth that there
Is "no more sea."
