May I be allowed to correct the false impression of Christian Science...

Cheltenham (England) Chronicle

May I be allowed to correct the false impression of Christian Science conveyed in a critic's remark that "one need not be a Christian Scientist to know that a man with a strong effort of will can stave off a cold or influenza."

Now a Christian Scientist knows, as Mrs. Eddy writes on page 445 of Science and Health, that "Christian Science silences human will, quiets fear with Truth and Love, and illustrates the unlabored motion of the divine energy in healing the sick. . . . The human will which maketh and worketh a lie, hiding the divine Principle of harmony, is destructive to health, and is the cause of disease rather than its cure." Surely this bears out Jesus' teaching, and his declarations: "I can of mine own self do nothing: . . . I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me;" "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."

Christian Scientists are daily proving that in proportion as they subjugate the human will to the divine and strive to let that Mind be in them "which was also in Christ Jesus," they can overcome sickness and sin in themselves and others, thereby demonstrating the divine law of harmony.
