Through the teachings of Christian Science I have been...

Through the teachings of Christian Science I have been released from a great bondage of fear,—fear of weather, of colds and climate. As a child I was taught to be afraid of weather, as I was sick every winter with fever and colds. While in high school I was taken out and sent South, with the verdict that I could not live until spring in a northern climate, my lungs being so delicate. At another time I had an attack which was pronounced by the physician an abscess of the lungs, and the following winter I was kept in the South eight months for fear of coming in contact with the cold and dampness of the North. The next winter it was six months, and this attack required four years of strenuous effort with physical culture, baths, tonics, special foods, etc., to restore me to what was considered a normal condition. I was taught to be afraid of bad or damp air as well as night air, and so my problems were many in trying to breathe fresh air at night.

Is it any wonder that my heart overflows with gratitude to the Discoverer of Christian Science, when through a study of her teachings I have been liberated from such bondage and am set free to enjoy the weather, no difference what the conditions may be? Since taking up this study, an attack like the last one referred to presented itself in all its aggravated forms, but a Christian Science practitioner was appealed to, and in three weeks I was restored to a normal condition, a vast improvement, however, over what was considered my normal condition prior to having learned that God is Life, and that a weak, delicate physical condition is not the manifestation of Life.

It is now six years since I began the study of the Bible in the light of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and to learn from it that the truth it contains is "our sufficient guide to eternal Life" (Science and Health, p. 497). I have enjoyed the freedom of health and strength ever since, and during this time the Bible has been my daily companion, enabling me to make practical Paul's admonition to the Galatians, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."—Lenore Coe, Cleveland, Ohio.
