It is with a grateful heart that I give my testimony, hoping it may help others as I have been helped. I can certainly say that I would not be here if it had not been for Christian Science. I was ill for thirteen years, and tried physicians without number, and had all kinds of medicine. About five years ago I first heard of Christian Science through a dear lady who came to our house one evening. I began to pour out my complaints to her, but she looked at me a few moments, then said that God could heal me of all my suffering. She then told me how she had been healed of a supposedly incurable disease through Christian Science; but I only turned a deaf ear, as no one in this community had then heard of it and it sounded strange to me.

During the next three months I suffered more than tongue can tell. I had two good physicians who did all they could for me, and I was taking their medicine every fifteen minutes night and day without any relief; indeed I seemed to get worse every minute. One night I cried to my husband to help me. He hurried to me and found that I had had a stroke and could not walk, so he carried me into the next room and started to call a physician, but I said I would never take another drop of medicine; that if I lived until morning I would find out what Christian Science had to offer.

In this case "man's extremity" was indeed "God's opportunity." My husband thought I had lost my mind from my long-continued suffering, but in the morning he sent for a practitioner, through whom my healing came. When she came, the first thing she said was: "The main thing in Christian Science is to be ready for it. Are you ready?" I will never forget those words, and as I looked up into her face I said, "I am ready for anything." She then said there must be first a willing mind, then an obedient one, and she gave me Science and Health to read. I had worn glasses for five years, but had broken them the day before, so thought I could not see, but I kept on trying until at last I could read without glasses, and I have never needed them again. I now have normal sight.
