Christian Science found me in Batavia, Java, about seven years ago. A friend came to see me one day, looking so radiant and happy that I scarcely knew her. She told me that a few days previously the wife of an American dentist had lent her a book, and after having read a few pages of it, she felt that the sun shone brighter and that all was love around her. This was because the book taught the allness and goodness of God and the nothingness of evil. The very same day we read together that most wonderful and poetic book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. A few days later a man fell under the electric tram, and by using the little truth which our text-book had taught me, I felt sure that God was able to take care of that man. A few moments later I saw him unharmed, but his clothes were torn to pieces.

I had to go back to my native country (Holland) two weeks afterward, and my only mental food during the voyage was the reading of three copies of the Sentinel. My first work when in Arnhem was to secure a copy of our text-book, and this book taught me the way to go to God in all my difficulties, as well as how to overcome fear which seemed very real to me.

Science and Health has literally educated me, and if I were to tell about all the blessings it has brought me, there would be no room for others in these columns. I would, however, like to mention some demonstrations, one being painless childbirth; and once, by realizing the truth, I overcame the effects of a severe scald on my child's hand, so that it left no trace. I have had the privilege of class instruction, and there it was pointed out to me that it is dreadfully selfish to be melancholy; so I was healed of this ailment, and now rejoice in the ever-presence of God, good. Some years ago my eldest daughter came home from school with a supposedly contagious illness, and I was able to protect the other three children (who remained at home), knowing that there is no divine Mind. I learned much in that time, and so, a few weeks ago, when my second daughter was attacked with illness, she was able to go to school within two days, whereas her schoolmates had to stay at home much longer.
