I first heard of Christian Science when I was about...

I first heard of Christian Science when I was about thirteen years of age. I had never been well, and at that time I suffered from eye trouble, toothache, headache, besides other ailments, some of which were supposed to be inherited. A friend had given my father some copies of the Sentinel and after reading them I made up my mind that I would be a Christian Scientist when I was grown. A few months afterward my father bought me a copy of Science and Health, and I had read it every chance I could get, for a year or more, before I realized that I was healed. I do not know how soon I was healed after I first began to read Science and Health, because I did not then know such a thing was possible, but I do not remember of my eyes giving me any trouble during that time. I have not used any medicine since I have been old enough to choose for myself.

I scalded my hand one evening, and the pain was overcome in one night. About a week afterward the skin came off of the back of my hand, but I held firmly to the truth of being, and in exactly two weeks from the time of the accident, there was no sign of a scar left. I had always felt that it was natural for me to be in need, as most of my people (the colored race) were, so it was a long time before I even tried to master any of the many financial difficulties that came to me. I was forced to ask for help along this line. when it seemed that I would have to leave school, and this error was met so completely that I have not had any trouble in that way since. I am now teaching in a school for colored children about thirty miles from here. I feel very thankful to Mrs. Eddy for Christian Science.
