With thanks to God, and to dear Mrs. Eddy, our beloved...

With thanks to God, and to dear Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader, I will tell some of the good I have received through Christian Science, as I could not enumerate all of the blessings that have come to me through this healing truth. A little over three years ago I suffered from a second attack of abdominal trouble. I was packed in ice and my people thought I could not recover. The physician was very kind and did all he could for me, and while I did recover from this attack, yet I was unable to do any work whatever, and I was continually oppressed with the fear that I might at any time have a relapse. I was advised to have an operation, but to this I would not submit, even though I was very tired of living constantly in pain and fear. I also had a number of other ailments,—rheumatic and catarrhal trouble, headaches, etc.

One day a dear friend said to me, "Come up to my house tomorrow and I will tell you of something better than an operation." This was just like having a stone lifted from my heart, to hear of something better than an operation, and I lost no time in availing myself of her invitation. This friend told me that her mother, then seventy-eight years old, had been healed in Christian Science, and she gave me a dear little book to read, "Rudimental Divine Science," by Mrs. Eddy.

One statement that I read in this book, "The emphatic purpose of Christian Science is the healing of sin; and this task, sometimes, may be harder than the cure of disease" (p. 2), especially appealed to me, as I was at that time a member of an orthodox church and very well satisfied in my belief also an earnest worker in the church. My sister urged me to see a Christian Science practitioner, and I did so, thinking I would first investigate, and learn if the healing came from God. When I asked the practitioner this question, he informed me that in Christian Science God is understood to be Love and all-power. I then asked about the Ten Commandments, and he again kindly explained that Christian Scientists believe that when they keep the First Commandment they keep all of them. I had never before realized there is so much in the First Commandment. I then asked for treatment, and in about two months I was entirely healed. After the first few treatments I walked about a half mile to and from the practitioner's office. I am happy to say that all the other ailments have left me. My eyes also had troubled me, so that I had to wear glasses, but I have not put them on since having Christian Science treatment and my eyes are perfectly well. Here I would like to say that I have not taken any medicine since my healing in Christian Science, and I am feeling better then I ever did before.
