CONFIRMATORY EVIDENCE

It is inspiring to note that the deeper the research into the original tongues of the Scriptures, the stronger is the confirmation of our beloved Leader's understanding of spiritual verities.

This appears in Jesus' rebuke to Peter (Matthew, 16: 23): "Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offense unto me: for thou savorest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men." Ferrar Fenton translates this passage, "Depart from Me, you enemy! you are a stumbling-block to Me: because you do not reflect upon the thoughts of God, but of men."

As the reader may recall, the Greek word for "offense," i.e., "stumbling-block," is skandalon, from which comes our word scandalize; and how true that the material thought of Peter did scandalize his Master.
