Physicians had been telling me for some time that I had symptoms of serious kidney trouble, and on May 18, 1906, I was compelled to stop work and go to bed. I called a physician, who pronounced the case very serious. He gave me regular medical treatment and put me on a diet, cautioning me to be very careful of myself, and told my relatives and Masonic brethren that I had not long to live. In August, 1906, a friend recommended Christian Science for my healing, but I would have none of it. The latter part of September, as I continued to grow worse, another friend to whom I was talking about my case told me that if I would try Christian Science I would get well. He persuaded me to go to a service at a Christian Science church on Wednesday night, and the next day I went with this friend to a practitioner and began treatment. About two weeks later I was ready to return to work. I was a locomotive engineer, and the physicians had said I could never run another engine, so I was forbidden to undertake my work by the physician in charge of the relief department of the railroad, who, while he admitted that I was well enough, feared a relapse. This I reported to the Christian Science practitioner, whose treatment, besides overcoming the supposedly fatal disease, also overcame this obstruction to my progress. As I was well enough to work, I was anxious to do so in order to prove it. On the first day of November I reported for duty; on the third day I went out on my regular run, and have enjoyed perfect health ever since.

Christian Science has lifted me into a new life, and I cannot make the words too strong, no matter how much I might say in praise of it. The trainmaster under whom I was running was the second friend mentioned above, and to him I owe heartfelt thanks. I wish also to tell of a demonstration with my five-year-old boy, who had an illness. He seemed to be seriously ill for three days, but we used no medicines and had no doctor. With our little understanding of Science, my wife and I met his case, and he was quickly healed. He hardly realized that he was sick, but we followed the Golden Rule, and because of others' fear of contagion kept him at home. Christian Science has thus made another happy family, whose only reliance in all the problems of our daily experience is upon God, through this wonderful understanding given us by our beloved Leader.—S. A. Franklin, Alliance, Neb.
