AMONG THE CHURCHES

That the members of the Christian Science faith are determined to demonstrate their loyalty to Mrs. Eddy was shown by the throng that attended the regular Wednesday night meeting of First Church of Christ, Scientist, at Ninety-sixth Street and Central Park West. Although the meeting was held soon after one of the most violent storms of the season, adherents of the new religion poured into the great building in such numbers that for the second time in the church's history an overflow meeting had to be held in the Reading Room. For almost a year the attendance at First Church has been so large that supplemental meetings seemed necessary, but it was feared that members would lose interest if obliged to attend service elsewhere than in the magnificent main auditorium, which is famed the world over for its exceptional architectural beauty.

The first of the overflow meetings, held last Sunday, proved instantly successful, extra seats having to be provided even in the Reading Room. Last night's gatheiring was almost as large as Sunday's, despite the bad weather. The services at the principal and overflow meetings were similar in character and resembled family gatherings in the freedom of expression and friendliness of spirit displayed. The members, men and women, eagerly availed themselves of the opportunity to give expression to their belief in Christian Science and to narrate some of the benefits received from its profession and practice. Remarkable instances of healing of bodily ailments, including violent fevers and fractures of limbs, were told, Greater emphasis, however, was laid by those testifying upon the spiritual advantages derived from study of the new religion.—Evening Journal.
