LETTERS TO OUR LEADER

Dear Mrs. Eddy:—For some time past I have wished to write to you, to express my sense of the wonderful work which you are accomplishing in this age, and to thank you personally for the benefits which I have myself received. Your book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," came to me about three years ago, at a time when, as a clergyman of the Church of England and in a responsible position, I often felt that I did not know which way to turn, in my sense of what the teaching of the Bible really implied and as to the true meaning of a Christian denomination. Only a month before meeting with your book, I was privileged with an invitation to preach in Westminster Abbey, and made it the occasion for a special effort to express such light as I had dimly attained on the Scriptural teaching of religion as man's true life now and here, and especially of the contrast between this teaching and the popular and scholastic views of religion in all ages. It was not, however, till I read your book that the scales fell from my eyes, and I gained a fuller enlightenment as to the spiritual truth which the writers of the Bible describe, and realized for the first time that it was scientific and demonstrable. Your patient efforts to open our eyes to this great and increasingly obvious fact have touched me very deeply; they have awakened me to many deficiencies and set me working in the right path. I became a member of your church,—The Mother Church in Boston,—some time ago. I have also joined First Church of Christ, Scientist, in London; and shall endeavor to make my life more worthy in every direction of this new understanding of the changeless Truth. I am
