In all simplicity

At first
I prayed to know
That God is greater,
Love is greater—far, far greater—
Than all the taunts
Of hate, destruction, fear:
Than all their shouts,
Than all their claims,
However loud they seem to be.
But “Wait a moment,”
“Pause a moment,”
“Pray again,” I heard.
And then light dawned:
Not “greater than,”
For God is All,
So Love is All,
And nothing else can be.
