The Christian Scientist recognizes that Truth is ever...

Saturday Chronicle

The Christian Scientist recognizes that Truth is ever knocking at the door of consciousness, waiting to be let in (i.e., realized), that the saying of Jesus, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," may be demonstrated. This means freedom from bondage to disease, pain, worry, and all that causes distress and fear. It means the consciousness that God (good) reigns, and the fading out of the belief that evil has power. Christian Science repudiates the claim of conflict between science and religion; it affirms that religion to be trust must be scientific, and that science, to be true, must be religiously in harmony with God as good.

The promise upon which the faith and belief of the Christian Scientist rests is set forth by Mrs. Eddy in the "scientific statement of being," as follows: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore, man is not material; he is spiritual" (Science and Health, p. 468). This statement of the Founder of Christian Science is in harmony with that of Jesus in John's gospel: "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." Also with that in I Corinthians, wherein Paul says: "Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed." The Christian Scientist understands that the kingdom of heaven within is a condition of consciousness, a state of mind with which non-intelligent matter has no connection or participation. The kingdom of God, as defined in Christian Science, is the kingdom of Mind, Spirit.

As God is Mind, and as Mind is the divine Principle of infinite good, we, as an idea and reflection of that Mind, exist as His perfect creation; we exist, therefore, as spiritual and not material, as His image and likeness. The concept of life in matter is a false mortal belief, based entirely upon the testimony of physical sense, which would make life mortal and finite instead of immortal and infinite. God is Life, and wherever life is truly expressed, there God is expressed. God is Truth, and wherever the truth of Life is expressed, God is expressed. God is Love, and where pure love is expressed, God is expressed. God eternally expresses good and is the creator of all that is real; therefore His creation must be good and that in which He is omnipresent. As the basic law of mathematics does not recognize the mistake of an ignorant attempt to solve a problem, so evil has no place in divine Principle, and is not created by or known to God.
