Truth protects and heals

One day while walking down a busy street, I was praying about God’s oneness and allness. I was knowing that I and everyone in the town and, indeed, throughout the world were loved and safe. As I walked over two heavy metal doors set in the pavement outside a pub, they suddenly flicked open and sent me flying across the sidewalk. As I lay there briefly, all I could think about was my earlier thoughts about God’s love for everyone.

I heard a man yell from below, warning his young assistant never to leave the doors unattended when he was opening them. Alarmed pedestrians gathered around me as I struggled to my feet. They were asking if I was OK and voicing their amazement that I didn’t seem to have broken any limbs. I thanked them for their concern and replied that prayer had protected me. I was so filled with this thought of prayer’s protection that I even took the arm of a woman who appeared particularly alarmed by what she had seen and said to her tenderly, “Prayer really did protect me.” I then continued with my errands.

Driving home, I prayed immediately when symptoms of shock came over me. As I repeated “the scientific statement of being” from the Christian Science textbook (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468), the nausea and dizziness lifted straightaway, and I arrived home safely.
