Swollen and painful hand healed

One morning, I woke up to find that my hand was swollen and painful. I could not move my hand or fingers. I called a Christian Science practitioner, and she said she would be happy to give me Christian Science treatment through prayer.

When I got off the phone, I studied the Bible Lesson for that week in the Christian Science Quarterly. I also studied the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, throughout the day. With each page I read, I was gaining spiritual inspiration. I was seeing more clearly that man, the spiritual idea of God, made in His image and likeness, is not a mortal subject to injury and pain.

I also found passages from the Bible helpful. I liked to begin my mornings with this thought from Jeremiah: “I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord” (30:17). And every night before I went to bed I thought of this: “Behold, I will bring [this city] health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth” (33:6). I thought about God’s power and the many people in the Bible who trusted God wholeheartedly for healing. I, too, was expecting healing and trusting God’s promise.
