I have given the name to all the Christian Science periodicals. The first was The Christian Science Journal, designed to put on record the divine Science of Truth; the second I entitled Sentinel, intended to hold guard over Truth, Life, and Love; the third, Der Herold der Christian Science, to proclaim the universal activity and availability of Truth; the next I named Monitor, to spread undivided the Science that operates unspent. The object of the Monitor is to injure no man, but to bless all mankind.

—Mary Baker Eddy, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353

When I write, why do I need to be edited?

Mary Baker Eddy’s inspiration for these magazines came with two solid requirements: that they be “ably edited” and “kept abreast of the times” (Mary Baker Eddy, Church Manual, p. 44).

So why should I be “ably edited” if I write for these magazines? The editors support authors so they can be assured that their writing has the authority, credibility, and verifiability necessary to stand up to any scrutiny and is able to reach large audiences.

And what does that mean for the reader? Firsthand experiences of healing and inspiration that have been carefully edited and verified give readers an opportunity to understand the divine Science of being and an authentic record of healing that is happening today, in a context they can relate to.

When you write for the Christian Science periodicals, you are adding your voice to a chorus of ably edited voices verifying that Christian Science is understandable and provable. You become part of a great company of writers and readers whose 130-plus years of publishing activity continues to give the public a permanent record of the divine Science of Christ, including thoroughly examined evidence of Christian Science healing.
