Unharmed by horse's kick

I had an experience a few years back that showed me how immediately we can expect Christian Science to heal. I had just begun training an eager young horse, and sometimes when I introduced new skills to her, such as cantering around the arena and jumping over obstacles, she would have a momentary explosion of joy. At one point, in her excitement, she kicked her back legs into the air, just as people might throw their hands into the air. Perhaps she just meant to reach out and touch my forearm, but she connected with such force that my arm was left without feeling or movement.

I immediately discontinued the activity and asked her to come to a stop so I could address the situation. There was really only one option for me; accepting that my arm was dysfunctional or broken just wouldn’t do. I started praying.

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy states over and over again that God is All, and matter or mortal mind has no power. In the moments following the loss of feeling in my arm, I made a choice. I wasn’t going to accept anything except the absolute power of God’s government, every moment of every day. In God’s kingdom, perfection was all I could experience, and that was all I was willing to accept. With joy, I threw all doubt and fear out the window. I knew that no ideas of God could collide because they must be harmonious in action and interaction.
