Healing prayer during pregnancy

Originally written in Spanish, this testimony appeared in the April 2013 German, French,
Spanish, and Portuguese editions of The Herald of Christian Science.

I became acquainted with Christian Science many years ago when I was three months pregnant with my first child. During a visit with the physician at that time, my husband and I were told that the child was going to be born deformed. He gave us the choice to have an abortion, which was legal to perform (where we were) up to the fifth month of pregnancy.

This news was shocking to us. I remember that the doctor left us alone for a few moments, so we could talk and possibly sign our consent for the abortion. My husband was very clear and told me, “Flor, this child is a spiritual idea of God; he is a child of God and is perfect.” I told him that I didn’t want to have an abortion, and he assured me, “We will go to a Christian Science church and you will know the truth.” My husband has been a student of Christian Science since childhood.

So we did. As I walked into the church, I read a sign on the wall that moved me. It read, “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need,” and below it, “Mary Baker Eddy” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 494). Another sign read, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free,” and below it, “Christ Jesus” (John 8:32).
