Kittens healed

Last fall, my two sons and I decided to add another pet to our family as a Christmas present. We already had a dog, Lexi, and a cat named Lillian. We visited the local Humane Society to pick out our new pet and fell in love with two.

We were thrilled with our new family members—a small kitten named Muffin and a slightly older kitten named Toona. About a week after we’d adopted them, they became very ill. Both kittens seemed very weak, and their breathing sounded wheezy. (I later found out that other animals from the shelter had been suffering from the same symptoms.)

I wanted to protect our new pets, so I prayed for their well-being, and I also prayed for myself, to understand that the only thing contagious in our house was good. We were a family brought together and held together by the divine love of God, who is a Parent to us all, including pets. We are all part of His universal family of creation. I knew these new little ones were brought into our lives for a reason, and the outcome could only be good and right. Our other pets, Lexi and Lillian, never became ill.
