HEALED QUICKLY OF HEAD INJURY

A year ago, in the middle of winter, we had an overnight freezing rain storm in our area that left a sheet of ice on our streets and sidewalks. In the morning I stepped outside our back door, and after taking a few steps, slipped on the ice and fell, hitting the back of my head on the cement walk.

I was momentarily stunned, but when I became conscious of my surroundings, these words from Science and Health filled my thought, and I spoke out loud: "There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God" (p. 228).

I felt so certain right then that God was in control and no accident could separate me from His love and care. Spiritual truths I'd learned throughout my study of Christian Science spoke to me. I pondered the truth of my spiritual identity as divine Love's expression, as Love in expression, upheld and sustained by divine law. In the Bible the Apostle Paul counsels, "Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things" (Phil. 4:8). This is the direction my thoughts took. A sense of God's omnipotence, strength, presence, and goodness reassured me, and I welcomed these thoughts as divine messages to be imbibed and lived.
