Real life Samaritans

Meet Dash, our family's yellow Labrador. He "speaks" German and his all-time favorite treat is a banana—isn't that funny? And like most Labs, Dash likes to swim, but not quite as much as many of the ocean friends you'll see swimming through this issue of the Kids' Sentinel!

I hope you enjoy the interview with marine biologist Sean Hanser as much as I did (see page 4). In fact, your questions and his answers were so interesting that we decided to put the entire interview online since it was too long to put in print. You won't want to miss his answer to the question, "What have you found out about how whales and dolphins communicate?" Look for it on spirituality.com: spirituality.com/kids/sentinel.

You could say Dr. Hanser's job is all about being a neighbor to marine life—studying them, learning more about them, and even helping them when they're injured or in trouble. Being a good neighbor is our Bible theme for this issue. Just like Mary Trammell says in the opening article: "The world needs your example as a 21st-century Good Samaritan. Your example is like a delicious perfume that stays and stays with people, way after the good thing you did. ... Because they get a whiff of God's healing love, through your love" (page 2).
