SCORPION STING HEALED

In February I went to visit my son and his family at their home in Abuja, the new capital city of Nigeria.

The third day I strolled down to a narrow, fast-flowing river. There are heaps of stones near the edge, and people sit on them to fish or watch fish and other small sea creatures jump and tumble in the water. After I sat down, I felt a strong agonizing pinch in my left leg, just at the top of my socks. Not realizing what was biting me, I stamped my foot on the ground and a big black scorpion fell out and fled. An African scorpion's sting can cause excruciating pain and even be fatal. While I was visiting my son, the local news reported the deaths of three people within a month from scorpion stings.

I have seen and experienced many times that prayer to God as taught in Christian Science heals. In a flash I found myself declaring a statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. "All of God's creatures, moving in the harmony of Science," wrote Mary Baker Eddy, "are harmless, useful, indestructible" (p. 514). That meant to me that I was safe in God's care, whatever was happening.
