GOD'S IMMEDIATE CARE

I was raised in Christian Science and was accustomed to seeing myself and others experience spiritual healing. But as a newlywed, I found that I was frequently ill. I devoted myself to prayer and studying the Bible and Science and Health to gain dominion over illness. I also wanted to draw closer to God, and knew that a clearer understanding of my Creator would result in better health and more holiness.

Part of my study included listening to audio lectures on the Bible. One of my favorites was about the book of Job. Like Job, I'd been feeling chronically ill and didn't understand why I was sick if I was obedient to God. I thought that if I studied and prayed, I'd be protected from illness, or at least quickly healed, but that wasn't the case. The discussion about Job spoke directly to my fears and frustrations. One thing the lecturer emphasized was our receptivity, saying we should let the Bible text speak for itself, and I loved the fact that so often my prayers for inspiration would be answered with words right out of the Bible.

Shortly after I began this extra study, I took Christian Science Primary class instruction to learn more about spiritual healing. This immersed me even more deeply into the stories and healing ideas of the Bible and Science and Health—as well as giving powerful examples of modern–day healings. After class instruction, I no longer felt ill all the time. Also, when the children or I was confronted with illness or injury, we experienced swift and complete healings.
