HEALING OF A FACIAL TIC

Originally published in Le Héraut de la Science Chrétienne

I found out about Christian Science through a friend who had talked to my mother about it. At first, I wasn't interested, and I doubted the value of these teachings. But then my mom was healed of serious respiratory difficulties through prayer in Christian Science, and she encouraged me to study it.

I was 12 at the time, and was suffering from a facial tic. An ophthalmologist had given me a prescription, but it had no effect. I blinked incessantly and couldn't help moving my head all the time. For two years I hadn't been able to stop blinking for two seconds at a time, which was painful. I also suffered from the way other people, including friends at school, looked at me.

I began reading the Bible and Science and Health. I especially studied page 468 of Science and Health, where you can find "the scientific statement of being" [see also page 9 of this magazine]. The idea that most helped me was that man, that is, all of us, is not material, but spiritual. I learned that I was the image of God. Therefore I began to understand that I couldn't be sick, because God never gets sick. As I prayed, I didn't think about the tic anymore, and about a month later I realized that it had disappeared. I was healed.
