HELPING OTHERS BRINGS HEALING

One day this past summer, my daughter and I were moving large lilies from one location to another in my yard. I remember measuring my age with hers as we worked, thinking that I couldn't possibly keep up with her level of physical exertion.

A couple of days later, I began to experience pain in my hip. I was scheduled to staff the Christian Science Reading Room that same day, and my desire to share Science and Health with the community prompted me to go forward with my plans, despite the pain.

As I prayed to find healing, I remembered a phrase that a Christian Science practitioner and teacher had shared with me: "Take a dose of no self, at all." To me, this meant that instead of focusing on a physical concept of myself that included deterioration and decline, I could shift my thought to see how God viewed me as His loved child, free from pain. As I mentally claimed my true being as entirely spiritual, I learned more about my agelessness and unlimited vitality as God's reflection. Pain could not define my life or disturb my thoughts, and I fully expected that it would soon be wiped out.
