QUICK HEALING AFTER A BICYCLE ACCIDENT

After I graduated from high school in 2003, I moved about 350 miles away from my parents' home to attend college. The town I moved to was a lot smaller than my hometown of Hamburg, so I decided not to take my car, but to ride my bike and use public transportation. This new region was also very different from the one I'd grown up in—there were mountains and hills everywhere. While I loved biking, I wasn't used to the steep inclines and descents.

One spring afternoon after my classes, two friends and I decided to go for a bike trip. On the way to our destination, I attempted to jump from the street onto the bike track, but my pedal jammed into the curb, and I was thrown off the bike into the street.

I remember the only thought I had while I was falling was, "You cannot fall out of God's love!" The next thing I remember was that both my friends were trying to help me up. My arms, legs, and face were covered with scrapes and bruises, and it was difficult to move. One friend wanted to call an ambulance, but I told him that I didn't want to go to the hospital, but would love to be brought home instead. I assured him that he didn't need to worry, and thanked him for his concern. My other friend helped me back to my apartment.
