GRATEFUL TO UNDERSTAND GOD BETTER

"O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together" (34:3). This verse from Psalms expresses how I feel about a healing I had in 2004.

One Saturday morning, I found myself dealing with considerable pain and weakness. I was scheduled to go work that morning, but was able to call and arrange for someone to do the essential parts of my job. Then I fell back into bed. I was comfortable when I lay on my back, but when I tried to sit up on the edge of the bed, the pain was such that I had to lie back down. I didn't have any appetite for the first day or so. After that, I was able to eat only soft foods.

My wife became my nurse and cheerfully, patiently, and lovingly took care of all my needs. When she had to go to work, she arranged for a dear friend, a Christian Science nurse, to be with me and prepare a meal. Another time, my sister, who is also a Christian Science nurse, was able to stay with me for a few hours. These acts of gentle caring meant a great deal to me. I was very grateful for these examples of love. And I gained a greater appreciation for what Christian Science nurses do in providing needed physical care while supporting a patient's healing by keeping their own thoughts spiritually grounded.
