SEVERE CRAMPS HEALED IMMEDIATELY

Some years ago I had an experience that taught me something about the everpresent love and availability of our Father-Mother, God.

I had an acute attack of cramps that just wouldn't abate. I remember feeling desperate for relief—so much so that I began to wish I had access to some kind of medical remedy. Having been lifelong student of Christian Science, I was not accustomed to thinking this way. I was used to relying on prayer alone for healing. I remember wishing my mother were with me because I longed for her comforting presence. I don't recall ever having had that kind of reaction to illness in the past.

Despite all this, I was able to make my way to the telephone to call a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. I don't recall much about the conversation except her calm voice. Our conversation was brief, but she said she would help me. When I got off the phone, I went to get something to drink, and I found myself singing a familiar hymn that begins, "God is working His purpose out..." (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 82). This was particularly comforting, because I had just left my job and wasn't sure what the next step would be. But I knew God's purpose for us is always good.
