"PHILIPPINE ARCHBISHOP FERNANDO CAPALLA, the new president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), declared that the whole country needs a 'spiritual revolution' today to promote a new moral order in the Philippines. Capalla said that what the country needs as of this time is not only a renewal but a revolution or a radical change not only of political and social systems, but also of hearts, minds, attitudes, and behavior.

"He came up with the declaration, which he delivered during the August 29-30 roundtable conference of Mindanao stakeholders, after his two weeks' meeting with key personalities in Manila. The church leader said that he met important persons in government, Congress, judiciary, military, business, ambassadors, foreign bishops, and Muslim Ulama for the First Asian Gathering of Christian Bishops and Muslim Ulama. "In the process of interacting with those people, Capalla said he was told that the country is now in a 'revolutionary situation.' ... 'As a spiritual leader I believe it is my duty to appeal to everyone, men and women of good will to pray intensely and in a sustained manner that the Lord of History will inspire individuals and groups to initiate the moves to make our people aware of the massive forces that threaten our country today,' he said."
