'God believes in me'

Journalist Cristiana Mesquita has reported internationally for 23 years. She was based in London for six years, and also worked for TV Globo, the largest TV station in Brazil. She has, in addition, owned her own video production company. For the past ten years Mesquita has been convering areas of conflict that include Bosnia, Kosovo, and several Latin American countries, for the Associated Press. While in Venezuela covering the civil uprising against President Hugo Chavez, Mesquita spoke with Leide Lessa, managing editor for the Portuguese magazine, O Arauto da Christian Science.

Does spirituality play any role in your professional and personal life?

It always has. I've never chosen a religion, but I identify myself with several of them. I've always read the Bible, and from time to time I consult Science and Health. Because I wanted to get to know the author of Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy, as a woman, and as a significant figure of her time, I read the biography of her written by Gillian Gill.
