MILLENNIUM WATCH

Y2K: who's in charge?

"We have the ability to choose our paradigm, to determine our future."

Her Words Sprang out at me: "Aren't you disturbed that there will be a general meltdown of society if all the computers fail? And what about all the prophecies signaling doom?" She was distraught and confused and fearful. She was talking about the Y2K problem with certain computers and the belief among some people that this problem is related to prophecies concerning the end of the world.

I could sympathize with her. Some time ago I had received a newsletter that predicted cataclysmic events stemming from the Y2K problem, and I, too, had been concerned. Since that time, I have followed closely the progress of banks, governments, and industries in correcting the computer problem. But, more important, I have come to embrace more deeply a message from the Bible and Science and Health, namely, that God governs.

For me, this is the central fact of existence. It doesn't change with the turning page of a calendar. All real, or true, activity is the expression of God, divine Mind, and this activity is harmonious, orderly, and good. Because we are the children of God, the very expression of infinite Mind, every aspect of our being is embraced in this intelligent, spiritual power. What's more, this is an unchanging power, a steady, reliable law of good which, like Christ, is "the same yesterday, and to-day, and for ever" (Heb. 13:8).
