To Our Readers

Many People Struggle with issues of personal safety and security, which can relate to both one's physical and emotional well-being. Some may feel under attack from co-workers, neighbors, even family members. Some are afraid of crime in their communities and the possibility of becoming a victim.

A growing number of women and men, however, are finding that there are spiritual means available to counter their fears and actually to bring healing and safety. In relying on spiritual means, our prayer and an understanding of our relation to God are vital. So is forgiveness. Have you ever thought about how essential forgiveness is to healing and safety?

Consider the experience of the author of this week's Cover Story. As a young woman on a trip to another country where there was considerable civil unrest, she was abducted and threatened with rape. In the midst of the attack, as she turned to God with all her heart, she came to realize that she needed to forgive the man—not at some point in the future but at that very moment.
