Sustained by God in the Soviet Army

At twenty years of age I was drafted into the Soviet Army. It did not seem to be a good place for my development, especially since difficult conflicts were likely to arise between the Soviet military order and my conscience.

Fortunately, my training in sports had made me sufficiently hardy that the physical demands of my new life were easily bearable. I was soon one of the best soldiers.
