If love is not returned

We don't have to beg for God's love.

A friend of mine felt romantically and emotionally obessed with a young man who was not interested in her. She decided to get help for this, so she called a Christian Science practitioner. My friend did not ask that the practitioner's prayer change the man's feelings toward her. What she wanted was freedom from the addictive mental pull resulting in worship of another human being.

My friend learned that for a relationship to be satisfying, it must reflect the true, spiritual sense of love, which comes from God. God cherishes man, and He is consistent in meeting the needs of His creation. God never runs hot and cold in His affection for His idea, man. God never belittles or abandons man. His will ensures that man feels protected, cherished, and valued. So our experience of love must reflect divine Love for it to be genuine and truly satisfy.

My friend discovered that she needed to be healed of low self-esteem. As she glimpsed her identity as a child of God, she recognized her right to feel content and at peace; she did not have to believe anything that suggested she was an inferior being. Soon after that, the false attraction vanished, and she was free.
