The first time I came to know Christian Science was when I was invited by my husband-to-be, already a Christian Scientist, to attend a youth meeting at his church. At the time I was not particularly attracted to what I heard because there were many things I didn't understand.

A year later I was invited to attend a three-day regional youth meeting sponsored by The Mother Church. I was a Sunday School teacher in a Protestant church. At this meeting I heard only things I considered appropriate to teach to my own pupils.

Shortly after that we were married, but rarely went to the Christian Science church. After our first child was born two years later, we held different view that how to care for her when she was sick. I held the view that a sick child should be taken to a doctor, because at the time I wasn't sure that healing could happen without medical aid.
