Science and Health: an effective physician

"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."

These are the opening words of a most remarkable book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It presents God as the great Physician and healer able to minister to all the ills of mankind. This book illuminates Christianity, helping the Christian to rediscover the spiritual force of Christ Jesus' teachings and their practical significance to daily life as well as to salvation.

More thinkers today are daring to examine the relationship between religion and health, and countless people are searching everywhere they can to find a cure for their ills. Too often current medical practice leaves small hope for cure, and many people are objecting to being tied to medication and other medical procedures for the rest of their lives. Christians naturally look to the Bible for help, for it is clear that healing was a significant element of Jesus' ministry and of the commission that he gives to all who follow him. Many long to revive this element of Christian practice but are unsure how to begin. Hence the enormous significance of Mrs. Eddy's work Science and Health, for it lays the spiritual foundation required for a resumption of the practice of Christian healing.
