I am deeply grateful for a fulfilling marriage to a fellow student of Christian Science, and for the joy and pleasure of sharing with her the rearing of our five children. The beloved five have given us many opportunities to turn to God and Christian Science, and to give back to Him His children!

Over the years we have seen healings of measles, mumps (while on holiday in Sweden), chickenpox, and many more so-called childhood diseases. In these experiences, turning to the ninety-first Psalm was very comforting: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. ... Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. ... There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling" (verses 1, 3, 10).

What an honour it has been to witness such healings and to see the children learn to put their hands in God's. We have learned well that faith must become spiritual understanding, as stated in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: "Faith, advanced to spiritual understanding, is the evidence gained from Spirit, which rebukes sin of every kind and establishes the claims of God" (p. 23).
