Welcoming the Christ into our hearts

God loves us so much that He sent His dear Son to comfort us, and to show us the way from sin and suffering to eternal life. Christ Jesus was his name. Jesus was the son of a virgin named Mary. Christ is his divine title, which shows his spiritual origin in God. You can read about the nativity, or birth, of Christ Jesus in the Bible in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke.

Mary was engaged to a man named Joseph when an angel told her she'd have this child. Mary loved God very much. She knew that He cared for her and blessed her. She welcomed the thought of having the child.

Then, the Roman emperor, Caesar Augustus, declared that all the people of the land would be taxed. Mary and Joseph (now her husband) traveled from their home in Galilee to Bethlehem to pay their taxes. A lot of other people had gone there, too, so many that the inn was full. Mary and Joseph found room in a stable. While they were there, Mary brought forth the child. She made a bed for him in a manger in the stable (see Luke 2:1–7).
