The Bible's healing message

Although the Scriptures were written in the past, they are actually a record of living truth—spiritual concepts that will heal today.

Many are familiar with the Bible as great literature. Its stories, poems, songs, and laws depict the spiritual progress of a people and their understanding of God. But the Bible is more than history or philosophy. It shows us how we can relate to God.

Although the individuals, families, and nations described in it are engaged in various human activities, the success or failure of their ventures is directly related to their willingness to put God first in their lives. This message comes through again and again in the Old Testament, and it is even more explicitly stated in the teachings of Christ Jesus.

The Master made clear that man is inseparable from God and that an understanding of this spiritual fact has immediate impact on people's lives. Through his healing work he presented Christ—the spiritual idea of God—and gave people a knowledge of their true spirituality. In doing this he was directly challenging the belief that life is material. At times he was quite explicit about this point. He told a Samaritan woman, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
