"...careful of our mental conditions..."

Mary Baker Eddy writes: "We weep because others weep, we yawn because they yawn, and we have smallpox because others have it; but mortal mind, not matter, contains and carries the infection. When this mental contagion is understood, we shall be more careful of our mental conditions, and we shall avoid loquacious tattling about disease, as we would avoid advocating crime. Neither sympathy nor society should ever tempt us to cherish error in any form, and certainly we should not be error's advocate." Science and Health, pp. 153–154.

About the time the series "Poison on the Wind" ran in The Christian Science Monitor, church members were being assaulted by gossip-filled anonymous letters which prompted some to ask whether the Monitor series was also a timely warning to members about the mental nature of poison and contagion.

Society's agonizing search for answers on the subject of immunity will be greatly blessed by Christian Scientists' acting responsibly in the care of their own mental environment.
