For children

Under the shadow of the Almighty

[Original in Portuguese]

Ana and Paula liked to read, to draw, and to climb trees. They also liked to run. One day when they were playing, Ana got close to the edge of a steep gully in order to pick raspberries and fell down from there. She hurt herself and went running to ask her mother to pray for her. (Ana and Paula were pupils in the Christian Science Sunday School. There they learned about spiritual healing and how Christ Jesus prayed and healed people.)

Paula immediately went to Mother too, and she said: "Ana hurt herself because she was disobedient. She knew that she wasn't supposed to go there, so God didn't take care of her."

Mother said she thought that wasn't what they had learned in Christian Science. She explained that God always takes care of His children. His love is always protecting us but we must be obedient and place ourselves under His protection if we want to feel His love. In one of the psalms of the Bible we read: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust." Ps. 91:1, 2.
