Since the time I spent as a pupil enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School, it has been natural for me to turn to God in times of need. For over fifty-five years I have had many proofs of God's ever-present care—proofs in the form of ample financial provision, divine direction, and physical healings.

One summer my husband and I were camping with our three children. We were staying in a crude cabin with no windows. The four sides of the cabin were hinged just below the roof line so that they could be pushed out and braced open for ventilation. One day the family went down to the beach to go swimming, and I stayed behind to tidy up a bit and ventilate the cabin. As I pushed out the fourth side, the brace slipped and the side came crashing down, catching my wrist between the side and the sill below. The wrist became painful and swollen.

I thought of a statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 393): "Your body would suffer no more from tension or wounds than the trunk of a tree which you gash or the electric wire which you stretch, were it not for mortal mind." I pondered this statement, repeatedly striving to get a deeper understanding of it. I also declared that divine Mind was governing me and that in my true being as God's reflection I was not subject to mortal mind or its lying beliefs regarding injury.
