Complete faith

"If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Matt. 17:20. The power and possibilities of a pure, singular faith!

I've wondered, though, when reading Christ Jesus' words about a "mustard seed" faith, if he was referring only to a speck of faith. Certainly he wasn't speaking of an insignificant faith as what's necessary to remove mountains. And Jesus did say that it's faith as a mustard seed. Perhaps that seed faith also signifies a complete faith.

Even if it starts small, such faith would already include all that is ultimately needed. Any seed, no matter how tiny, contains the essential elements from which growth and fruition will come. And the most basic of spiritual truths—revealing the nature of God as infinite Spirit and man as God's perfect spiritual likeness—has within it everything necessary to move "mountains." Our work is to hold to that truth faithfully, with humility and singleness of purpose.
