Before I knew of Christian Science I doubted even the existence...

Before I knew of Christian Science I doubted even the existence of God. This was because as a teen-ager I'd become dissatisfied with what I had been taught about the nature of God. Still, I continued to look for an answer to the question "Is there a God?"

The first part of the answer came while I was being held prisoner during the Second World War. One day the thought came to me, almost as though spoken, "You can know reality." My mental response at the time was "I didn't ask to know reality." But I began to learn several years later, through the study of Christian Science, that all reality is in God. In fact one of the subjects for the weekly Bible Lessons outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly is "Reality."

After returning from the war, I settled in another part of the same state in which I had grown up. I was singing professionally at the time and was invited to substitute as soloist for a Sunday service at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. About this time I was reading the Bible in an effort to come to terms with its enduring importance. My efforts until then had been unavailing. But after singing at that Christian Science service, I was convinced that Science held the answers to my questions, and I began regular study of the Bible Lessons. That was over thirty-five years ago, and I have found and continue to find the study of Christian Science very rewarding.
