A year-end statistical summary by the American Bible Society reports that in 1984 ABS distributed 114,458,279 Bibles, Testaments, and Biblical selections in the United States.

New Testaments came to more than 3.2 million copies in 1984, an increase over the previous year. Bibles reached beyond the 1.9 million mark, close to the total for 1983.

Distribution of New Reader Scriptures, the special series created so that people may read the Bible while they are learning to read, rose by more than 20 percent.

There was greater demand from ethnic churches and outreach groups, as well as for regional circulation on the part of some denominations. The Los Angeles Summer Olympics and the New Orleans World Fair were times of especially heavy distribution.

Worldwide, in 1984, members of the United Bible Societies distributed 516 million Scriptures, including 12 million Bibles.
