"My cup runneth over"

As a new student of Christian Science and not quite sure of all the terminology, I bravely made my first visit to a practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal. I was fully prepared to divulge my past history and when seated in her office started to unravel my tale of woe. After a few moments the practitioner interrupted me and told me that I was God's perfect child.

The concept of being perfect utterly shattered my distorted image of myself. The practitioner, realizing that perfection was a new idea to me, went on to explain that each of us actually has only one Parent, and that Parent is God. Therefore we express only Godlike qualities. Anything that is ungodlike has no hold over us. She said emphatically that only God has power.

This thought was such a totally new one to me that I felt bewildered and told her that I was a divorced woman with a very young child, and my ex-husband was not supporting us. All I had was a commercial high-school diploma. Then, to make sure she really understood my financial and emotional plight, I added, "My situation is really desperate."
